Snana-Yatra this Sunday! ***NOTE: BATHING WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 4:30PM-6:00PM***

A sure sign that the annual Festival of India (Ratha-Yatra) is just around the corner (July 16-17, 2011) is the annual Jagannatha Snana-Yatra festival! Snana-Yatra, a wonderful festival, wherein Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balarama and Lady Subhadra will be bathed amidst amazing kirtan and chanting!

After the bathing ceremony (Snana-Yatra), Lord Jagannātha apparently becomes sick. He is therefore removed to His private quarters, where no one can see Him. Actually, during this period the body of the Jagannātha Deity is repainted, this is called nava-yauvana.

During the Ratha-Yatra Festival on July 16th, Lord Jagannātha will once again come before the public. Thus for thirteen days after the bathing ceremony, Lord Jagannātha is not visible to any visitors! Don't miss out this last opportunity to see Lord Jagannatha before his grand Ratha-Yatra festival!

***IMPORTANT: This year the bathing ceremony will begin at 4:30 PM and continue to 6:00 PM. Following the bathing, Lord Jagannatha's altar will close at 6:00 PM. Anyone wishing to have a final darshan of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra must come before 6:00 PM.***

Let’s All Wear Blue or Yellow for Lord Jagannatha!

Have you picked out your outfit for Ratha-Yatra (Festival of India) yet? An encouraging call goes out to all devotees to wear blue or yellow for the festival to show your love for Lord Jagannatha!

This year, under the direction of Bhaktimarga Swami, our annual Ratha-Yatra parade will have an exciting twist! In an attempt to showcase our beautiful parade in a more coordinated manner, we are requesting that all devotees wear either BLUE or YELLOW on the day of the parade. On July 16th, we will become ambassadors of our beautiful Hare Krishna culture. Let’s look organized and unified and show the people of Toronto how beautiful this festival truly is.

Wear your love for Lord Jagannatha -- BLUE or YELLOW! Jaya Jagannatha!

Gundica Clean-up this Sunday!

Our Festival of India (Ratha-Yatra) is coming up in less than 3 weeks and the festivities kick off this Sunday with the annual Gundica Cleanup (Temple Cleanup) and Snana-Yatra (Bathing festival) festivals!

Every year, before the Ratha-Yatra festival, the temple is lovingly cleaned by the devotees. This is following the example set by Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who held the first Gundica Cleanup some 500 years ago. The famous Ratha-Yatra parade in Jagannatha Puri begins at the Jagannatha Puri temple and proceeds all the way till the Gundica Temple. Preparing for the arrival of Lord Jagannatha, Caitanya Mahaprabhu with His associates personally cleaned the entire temple.

The clean-up will start at 10:30am in the temple room and will continue till 2:00pm. Special Lunch (prasadam) will be provided for those who come out to help clean!

The clean-up will be followed by the Snana-Yatra festival starting at 4:30pm.

A warm invitation goes out to you and your family to join in the wonderful celebrations of Gundica Cleanup and Snana-Yatra festivals this upcoming Sunday!

Maha-Harinama Party on Canada Day!!!

It is Canada's B'day on Friday and your Hare Krishna Centre wants to celebrate this special day in a fun and festive way!

We are inviting everyone to join us on Friday, July 1st as we hit the streets and share kirtan, sweets, books and smiles with Torontonians during Canada day festivities in downtown Toronto. This is also a great way to inform people about the upcoming Festival of India (Ratha-Yatra) by handing out cards!!!

The plan is to meet at the temple at 1pm and we will then head downtown for a grand street party with kirtan accompanied by wild drumming, singing and dancing! We will be back at the temple by 4pm where a delicious meal awaits us!

A special request goes out to EVERYONE to dress as colourfully as possible, in full devotional attire, as we want to amaze Torontonians with the beauty of Krsna consciousness, both with our appearance and with our smiles! If any of the ladies are interested in getting gopi-dots (traditional face painting) done, please come by earlier to the temple!

We're looking forward to seeing you there!

ISKCON Australia - 40th Anniversary of Radha Gopinath!

The video below includes a few shots from the 40th anniversary celebration in Sydney. This is a short prelude to the film covering different aspects of the festival including interviews, classes and kirtans that happened over the weekend.

Can You Guess the Tune? :o)

While it might be old news for savvy internet browsers, Google had a very unique "Google Doodle" on their homepage yesterday (and it has continued today). The Google Doodle is the often customized version of the "Google" logo that appears on the search engine's home page.

The doodle, in honor of musician and electric guitar pioneer Les Paul, featured the strings of a guitar in the shape of the Google logo. That logo, however, was actually playable—strum it with your mouse and it played a song. In the U.S., meanwhile, users could record a 30-second snippet of their creations and share with friends.

We found a link to a famous song that actually has a tie to our Krsna conscious movement. Can anyone guess the song? Click here to listen. Leave a comment with your guess! (Hint: It's a famous song that was actually written about our dearmost Srila Prabhupada)
